Winningen has approx. 2,597 residents. The town is part of the municipality of Untermosel. The well-known wine-growing and tourism community unites tradition and progress in a harmonious fashion and was thus awarded gold medals in the State and Federal competition Unser Dorf hat Zukunft (Our Village has a Future). In narrow, winding streets with old half-timbered houses, you will find hotels with modern furnishings, guest houses and private rooms as well as cosy wine taverns and restaurants. There is also the very popular camping island called Ziehfurt. Numerous winegrowers offer excellent wines and sparkling wines.
The proximity to the motorway A 61 and Coblenz/Winningen regional airport also make the municipality attractive as a commercial location. For this reason, the industrial and commercial area Am Flugplatz was developed, close to the airport and only a few minutes away from the motorway access Coblenz-Metternich, to which companies from Winningen, but also new companies have located.
The name August Horch (1868-1951) also stands for the area's connection with trade and industry. After all, the famous automobile and motor manufacturer was born in Winningen and is today an honorary citizen of the municipality.
